The Strategic Learning & Development Group sits beneath and reports to Peterborough Safeguarding Children Board (PSCB). The work of the PSCB is part of the wider context of Children’s Trust co-operation that aim to improve the overall well being (i.e the five Every Child Matters outcomes) of all children in the local area.

The overall purpose of the group is to take responsibility for ensuring that relevant and good quality single agency and inter agency training on safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is provided to meet local need and is reaching the relevant staff across the Children’s Trust. It is also responsible for delivering training in relation to the child death review processes and serious case reviews.

The Strategic Learning & Development Group will deliver the following objectives:

Develop and implement a PSCB Workforce Development Safeguarding Strategy and ensure the Children’s Trust Workforce Development Strategy reflects safeguarding issues appropriately.

Monitor, evaluate and validate single agency training programmes and ensure that they are fit for purpose.

Develop specific training in response to local issues arising from serious case review recommendations and the Child Death Overview Panel.

Recruit, train, support and evaluate the performance of the PSCB Training Pool who will deliver training arising from serious case review recommendations and the Child Death Overview Panel.

Contribute to the annual training report for the Children’s Trust.

The Chair will be a member of the PSCB Operational Chairs group and will report to each PSCB meeting.
A vice Chair will be nominated from within the group.
The Chair may set up time limited task and finish groups as required to deliver its objectives.
The action plan will be reviewed at each SLDG meeting.

The Strategic Learning & Development Group will be chaired by the PSCB Learning & Development Manager and will include membership from:

Each member will have the appropriate skills base required to effectively execute the group’s work plan.
Members will take responsibility for attending meetings, fully contributing by bringing expertise to the task and informing their respective agencies of issues and developments.

Strategic Learning & Development group will meet six weekly in the first instance. The Chair will determine the frequency of the meetings depending on the needs of the work plan.
The PSCB Learning and Development Manager and Training Administrator will support the work of the Strategic Learning & Development group
